Advances in SBS Education in 2003:
Skippers Story has won the Aurora Award Gold Award 2003. The Aurora awards are an international competition honoring excellence in film and video production. Were very proud!!!!
Meg Meehan is a producer with the SUNY Training Strategies Group. They produce training progams and a statewide training teleconference for licensed child care providers under the auspices of the NY State Office of Children and Family Services.
In April 2002, we collaborated with Meg to create a training video to educate providers about Shaken Baby Syndrome. It was called "Skipper's Story" and focused on our experience and the work of the SKIPPER Initiative. Skipper's Story was broadcast statewide and made available to child care councils. It was updated last year to incorporate some additional training points.
Meg was also instrumental in including SBS education in the training curriculum that has to be completed before new child care providers can be licensed.
We honored her and the TSG staff with an award at our Community Recognition Brunch in March. Senator Bonacic and Assemblyman Cahill were also recognized for sponsoring legislation that now requires all new child care providers to be educated about SBS.
